Mathematics

At Loxton Primary School teachers provide a balance between explicit, direct teaching of Mathematics to whole class or guided groups and self-directed problem solving situations.  Coherence and consistency is maintained through the use of some common routines at all levels. Technology is used to enhance students’ numeracy and mathematical thinking.  Developing mathematics proficiencies enables students to take their place as 21st Century learners, as confident problem solvers, and critical thinkers. School numeracy and maths are linked to the students’ everyday life and world.

The Big Ideas in Number framework used in all classrooms ensures a consistent language across the school. All teachers use common routines which are implemented at all year levels.
