We greatly value Student Voice at Loxton Primary School. We believe that all students have leadership potential.
The establishment of a Student Representative Council (SRC) provides an avenue for students to express views and become part of the decision-making process with regard to issues that affect the student body. It also provides an opportunity for students to take on Leadership roles.
Student School Leaders are elected at the start of each year through an application process and hold their positions for the school year.
The SRC includes our School Student Leaders, an Aboriginal student representative, and two representatives from each class. Class representatives are elected by their peers and hold their positions for one semester. This approach allows a broad range of students to be involved and have a voice in school decisions and activities.
The SRC meet fortnightly with the assistance of the Leader of Wellbeing to discuss current school matters brought forward by the reps from their Class Meetings. The SRC also initiate and are responsible for whole school events such as casual days, community support, charity fundraising and lunchtime activities.
House Captains are elected for each of our Sports Teams and help organise and run sporting events throughout the year. They also plan and facilitate lunchtime activities for students- these often include student vs staff sporting events.
Play Pals are Upper Primary students in the yard with responsibility. These students complete an application form and are chosen by their teachers and leadership. Play Pals are given an orange vest to wear and a bumbag with supplies when on duty. Their role in the yard is to manage minor First Aid incidents (band-aid, tissues), manage minor yard incidents (no-one to play with, minor disagreements), be a friendly face reminding students to do the right thing and follow school values in the yard, and be present- as extra eyes and bodies in the yard for students to look out for.
Environmental Leaders are a group of students who take part in the Young Environment Leaders program. These students attend community forums and participate in a variety of environmental projects and initiatives, both within the school and the wider community. Their involvement helps to promote sustainability and encourages environmental responsibility among all students.
Student Voice has been instrumental for our before school and lunch time activities; including Up and at ’em, held every Monday morning before school and the Garden Club held every Wednesday lunchtime.
