Science empowers students to explore the biological, physical, and technological world through evidence-based learning, curiosity, and hands-on investigation. Specialist science teachers lead engaging learning experiences, encouraging students to question, investigate, and understand their environment. 

Our students benefit from dedicated science rooms for both Junior Primary and Middle/Upper Primary, each equipped with specialised tools and resources to support practical, meaningful learning. These include, but are not limited to, microscopes, balance see-saws, fossils, and electrical circuits, enabling students to conduct authentic experiments and investigations at every stage. 

Through collaborative inquiry, students develop critical thinking, observation, and problem-solving skills as they explore real-world issues. Our Science program nurtures a sense of wonder and builds confidence, equipping young learners to embrace new challenges and opportunities in an ever-changing world. 

 Health and Physical Education is designed to nurture the whole child by developing a wide range of movement skills, fostering teamwork, and building lifelong healthy habits. Through a broad and engaging program, students are encouraged to improve fitness, confidence, and resilience, as well as develop a genuine enjoyment of physical activity. 

In the early years, the focus is on building Fundamental Movement Skills through a ‘game sense’ approach, designed to make skill acquisition active and enjoyable. As students’ progress, these abilities are further developed using the Teaching Games for Understanding model, with learning deepened across a diverse selection of traditional and contemporary sports. This ensures every child can experience success and grow as an individual. 

Our vibrant program encompasses a variety of opportunities, including Sports Day, Swimming Carnival (Years 4–6), interschool competitions, and skills clinics throughout the year. These experiences not only promote school spirit but also lay pathways for students to pursue sporting opportunities both within school and at local, regional, or even national level. Many students have progressed to represent Loxton Primary School and South Australia proudly in a range of sports. 

Specialised programs, such as comprehensive Athletics in Term 1 and water safety lessons from Reception to Year 6, are highlights on the school calendar. Senior students enjoy the Aquatics Program at Lake Bonney, where activities such as sailing, kayaking, and windsurfing are delivered by experienced instructors, encouraging confidence, safety, and adventure. 

At Loxton Primary, our approach supports every student to develop essential skills for lifelong health, fitness, and well-being, providing strong foundations for continued participation in sport and active lifestyles as they transition beyond primary school. 

Technologies learning empowers students to engage confidently with an ever-evolving digital and design landscape. Students utilise a range of tools—including laptops, iPads, coding platforms, and hands-on materials—to explore innovative thinking, creative problem-solving, and design. 

Technology is integrated across all subjects and year levels. Students participate in a variety of engaging experiences such as robotics, Lego Technics, Beebots, engineering design challenges, sewing, textiles, and coding. These activities challenge students to address real-world problems creatively, building adaptable skills for their futures. 

Kitchen Garden: 

Our Kitchen Garden program provides practical life experiences in a purpose-built kitchen and amongst our extensive garden beds. Students plant, nurture, and harvest produce, then prepare nutritious dishes with their classes. The program emphasises sustainability, teamwork, and safe food preparation, with food presentation and sharing celebrated as highlights of the experience.

Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) fosters students’ curiosity about the world—past and present—through the study of history, geography, civics and citizenship, and economics and business.

Drama and Dance come alive in our spacious School Hall, while Visual Arts flourish in our well-equipped wet areas and inspiring outdoor learning environments.
